We received a letter in the mail from the city of Sherman, TX yesterday that they were considering annexing our neighborhood!

Needless to say, we were not very happy!
Too many fun memories in our neighborhood of roasting marshmallows on bonfires or just clearing out the brush, shooting our guns, popping firecrackers and so much more that will come under the laws of the city as illegal if we should get annexed.

This all started because a section of homes that are on the same water system as we are thought it would be a good idea to get city water brought into the neighborhood. They had a private home owners meeting and invited the city manager to consider the annexation plan.
Afterwards, the other homes that are affected received a letter stating that we were a part of the plan and that we would get city water (yuck), trash service and eventually street improvement.

I know several neighbors that will also have to make changes in the way they do life, park their RVs, raise animals other than dogs and cats, place their propane tanks. Some people, if not all, will loose part of their yard as the city is talking about coming in and widening roads and taking that land to use.

We are not interested and know several of our neighbors that feel the same way. I know there is a petition that will be available at the meeting on Monday night for those in favor so I have setup a petition to gather signatures from home owners that do not agree that live on Lamberth road that is a part of Lamberth Estates, Carriage Circle, and the non Sherman side of Shady Oaks Lane.

We need to let our voice be heard!

What a summer so far.....

I can't believe how much rain we have gotten! It has totally messed up my pool and backyard.
Usually by May we have a pretty yard complete with plants and flowers around the pool. The pool although cool is always ready for swimmers by end of May. Not this year! We began putting out our plants and flowers and I am pretty sure my hanging baskets are dead due to too much water!
My pool was starting to come in and then the waters hit with a vengeance bringing dirt and stuff from I don't know where.....it is still struggling and what is it doing this week? Raining again! Lake Texoma will probably go over spillway again....that is just crazy!
I think we are going to need a summer do over.....I like summer.....it is a nice break to get outside and in the sunshine......but this year it has been rain, Mosquitos and flies.....

On another note....we are days away from seeing our second Grandbaby! Looking forward to baby Cylus to arrive!

Another busy weekend but summer is on its way!!

Well... last weekend was busy... we went to check on Ashley after she was placed on bed rest for the weekend. We are waiting to hear if she will be released today to return to work or if she will be heading to hospital to deliver a sweet baby boy.
There was still work to do on the duplex...so we headed over there with Alex to help out with that some too... his parents helped him finish up on Saturday.
We waited out the rain on Saturday morning and then headed out to see the flood waters... crazy how much water was flowing over the spillway!!!
I'm sore from all this moving and lifting...so I am enjoying a bit of Plexus Fast relief cream...it feels so good! Sunday the sun came out for a bit and of course I had to go sit and enjoy... I got a little bit pink on my arms and legs but I tried the Plexus body cream.. and sure enough that pink was gone and the heat was out of it...I just love all these Plexus products...I am anxiously awaiting for my P96 vanilla to come in so I can make some more of those great shakes!!!

This week we are on baby watch...could happen anytime!!!
Just a few days till summer.... I can make it!!!

A long weekend!!!

Well it was a long weekend! We decided to take in a movie Friday night after dinner! I didn't realize how long the Avengers movie is! So we got home some time after 10:30 and then got up earlier the next morning to help Ashley and Alex move.
There was much packed but still much to be done as we began loading boxes and the guys began loading trailers. The guys made one trip to the new house before we stopped for lunch... the 2nd trip we all decided to go. The house is great! They are going to love it!
We got back Saturday night before the storms hit...lots of rain fell...not much sleep before we got up and went to church. After lunch we all tried to grab some rest before going back up to the church for some volleyball and games.
Monday, Steve and I went back to Denton to help....don't know that we got much done but we did figure out where the hospital is... and helped get a new fridge transported to the new house and put in the kitchen.

Bentley is starting to show some of that sweet personality and her momma caught some of these shots on Saturday. Can't believe she is almost 2 months old.. won't be long till we have Baby Cylus here too!!

Rain, Rain go away

Ok... I know come July and August we will just wish for some rain.. but right now...go away!!! When I walk in our yard it is just gooshy and you leave foot prints as you move around.
My pool is struggling and green...every time we get close to getting the chemicals right the rain comes.
I was driving home from school yesterday in a DOWN pour... I used an umbrella but still got soaked walking to the car...as I got up to the light hail started...so I found cover and let Steve know.. he let me know the sun was shining at the house..and actually I was starting to see some sun too... while it was raining and hailing on me!
Looks like the rest of the week and into the holiday weekend is RAIN.... we are hoping to move Ashley to her new home but that depends on closing and the RAIN....

I am soooo ready for summer! First thing I want to do is to do nothing at all... I hope my pool cooperates and at least looks clear!!!

A very wet weekend......

WOW! what a crazy wet weekend!
Friday night I kept up with Ashley as she traveled from Denton to Granbury as the storms were coming in! Steve and I grabbed a quick bite and picked up some breakfast food and pretty much just hung out at the house.
Steve and I went out to Hagerman on Saturday just to see how the water was rising! They were putting out barricades and blocking roads that were going under water! It is good to see water in the lake.. but did it have to all come at one time??
Sunday we all were at church and then were coming to the house to fix steaks and veggies for Mother's day... in the middle of church everyone's phone alert went off and let us know MORE flooding potential was out there.
Sure enough while starting lunch it looked like a monsoon!!! The power went out and stayed out for some time.. that put lunch on hold... when it came back on we really enjoyed our lunch!!!
We just hung out and watched the tornado track through the East side of town...
I enjoyed my day and got cards from both kids and also beautiful hanging baskets and a clean patio from Steve...
I am blessed!!!

New Addition

Well this weekend we made a road trip to Canton. We loaded up Andy and Bobbie and baby Bentley and off we went. Andy really wanted to take Bobbie to see the big First Monday trade's day... but I knew what that meant was really Dog Alley...so off we went on our two hour adventure...
It was a busy place and Dog alley was full of LOTS of animals!!!
We saw Yorkies and Morkies and Ducks and Geese and Rabbits and just a little bit of everything!
Of course we had to hold and pet and enjoy as many of them as we could! I think we were all on sensory overload.
As luck would have it we found a really pretty Border Collie at a great price that we just couldn't go home without.
We didn't make it home till around 10pm.. but we had a cute little guy with us.... He really didn't want to go straight to bed when we got there so Steve and I traded off staying in the living room with him so at least we each got a few hours sleep!
Last night was so much better! We made sure he had play time after church and lunch and that he had a full tummy an hour before bed time. He has kinda taken up with Beau's pillow bed so we put that in the new puppy's carrier and he got in and got quiet and went to sleep...we actually slept all night...
He has done a really good job of going outside to potty...of course he hasn't really learned to tell us yet but the signs are big so off we go! :) and he didn't go in his bed at all!!!
So.. next step is to name this little guy...some names we are looking at are:
  • Scout
  • Rowdy
  • Jasper
  • Scooter
I am always happy after I get a dog names so I can start the training... and he is going to be a fun one to train because he appears to be really smart!!!

WOW! What a weekend!!!

I took off on Friday to go be with Ashley at her doctor's appointment- Steve was concerned about me being on the road right in the middle of all the rain and storms coming across our area.
I assured him that I would be fine- I started out by stopping to get gas.... I only got $10 of gas in my truck because the rain was coming down so hard and at such and angle I was already drenched- no worries.. I had plenty for my trip.
As I started out to Denton my tire gauge come on my dash around Collinsville- no big deal... I know the air pressure can come on occasionally with change in temperature and change in tire pressure... but then as I watched it go down a little more I realized I might be in trouble. I pulled over at a convenience

store gas station next to air pump- I gathered my quarters and got out to put air in my tire- that is when I heard it... AIR escaping quickly from my tire. I let Steve know and of course he was out the door and on his way before I could even stop to consider what my options might be for getting a spare on our help.
Well.. he arrived in what looked like enough time to still get to Denton for Ashley's appointment- and since it was raining- working on the tire didn't look good right then anyway... so off we went.
We arrived in time to see little baby Cylus up on the big screen- he was being a bit more cooperative this time but still had his arms up... the doctor said she could see a lot of hair!!! We are all so excited for his arrival.
After a quick run by Starbuck's we were off to Collinsville to get my truck back on the road before the next storm that was following us up the road began to pour! We didn't make it before the rain.. but Steve was able to fix my tire and we headed off towards Sherman. The piece of metal he pulled out of my tire was longer than my index finger- I guess you could say as big or bigger than a pencil... ugh!!!
Rain continued hard most of day- much more water than my garages or back door could handle. It looked like I had a pond in my front yard.
Saturday cleared off so pretty and as we were getting ready to head to Air Show in Durant we noticed water standing just outside of our front door- right where our water heater closet is...so... after investigating that we realized our 20 year old water heater needed to be replaced...so off we went on a price and size checking adventure and finally brought a new one home to install before Steve grilled us some awesome hamburgers.
Sunday was good- we had an awesome worship with Steve leading and then we had to make a quick road trip to Allen so we stopped off for lunch at the Blue Goose and then home to clean up our mess in the house and garage.... and here we are back to Monday... but....not many Mondays left before Summer...we can do this!!! ;)

April brings......

April brings showers and flowers and tests!
I love the winter snow and cold... but I also love to see the cold go and the spring showers bringing the flowers and green grass. I love when we start working on bringing the pool in and getting our plants out.
We start talking about what to plant in the garden and what flowers need to be replanted around the back patio.
The hummingbirds have already started coming around looking for a drink... large butterflies are hanging around the backyard..of course our Cardinals have been around for a while as we have kept bird seed available for them during the frost!
It is an amazing time of year! We went to a little plant nursery in Denison yesterday- I wanted to take home several plants... I love to make the backyard just feel like an Oasis around the pool to share with family and friends... hopefully we will get a break in the rain soon to start really working on those things...
In the meantime, the front flowers have made their appearance... Iris, Indian Hawthorne, Roses... so pretty!

April is also testing in Texas schools... it is done in our elementary schools today... so now students and teachers alike can take an opportunity to breathe a little easier! They did a great job of preparing and students appeared to work hard in our classrooms and on the computers...

After a day of testing it is good just to get outside and enjoy the sunshine and watch the birds and butterflies and see the sweet flowers!

Spending Time is awesome!

We enjoy spending time with family! Love it when the kids come home and play or just visit!
We love to make it a special treat and make sure everyone is well fed and has fun...or rest..whichever they need!
Lately we have been getting to spend time with the newest addition to the family. She has been such a good baby. She has gone to the movies and was at church the first weekend she came home from the hospital.
It is fun to see how everyone makes sure they get an opportunity to hold her.
Here she is with her Pawpaw this weekend when we kept her on Friday and when she came over for a visit on Saturday and then her cute little Sunday dress!
Sweet little Bentley!

What's in a Name?

So... every time I show off my beautiful granddaughter the question comes up...What are they going to call you?
Of course we have always said....Whatever they come up with I suppose... but since the first one has been born and you take her in your arms you kinda wanna say something like "Come to grandma" or "Nana's got this"
We were talking about what Steve would be called... several asked if he would be pappaw and although that stirs so many sweet memories one day Steve leaned over little Bentley and said... I would love to be your pappaw but oh what a name to live up to! Pappaw was such a special man... adults loved him, children loved him, even animals loved him..... he had been a hard worker taking care of his family, he had served the church faithfully, he loved to spend time with family hunting, fishing, in the garden, playing... where ever he was. Yes... I think Steve is that man too... but for him.. it was just hard taking on that name... so... after a little thought I think Steve has become PawPaw... I need to make him a shirt with two paws on it!!
So of course conversations have turned to me... will I be Mers.. well.. Mers and MersP was my mom and grandmother.. they got their names from my nephew.. that was what he could say... and it stuck! They were both such special moms... giving to their family, taking care of others, serving the church and community...but no.. it just doesn't feel right taking on that "special" name that had been my mom... what about mammaw.. once again what a special special lady that did so much for others, her church and her community... that doesn't feel right either... When the name is said I look to see if she is still with us... making tea cakes and sewing special dresses for Ashley....So many names...
Ashley has really been leaning on calling me GiGi... LOL... not sure where that comes from... but it is different and fun... could I be a GiGi... I don't know... maybe... what will Bentley actually say... or perhaps it will be Cylus that speaks those words first... do I start saying things like "GiGi will hold you" or "let GiGi do it" just to try it out or see if it sticks.... hmmmm........I will love whatever they call me... just hope they call me often!!!

Last Week

Well we were not prepared for last week! We had just finished enjoying an awesome weekend with Ashley and Alex up for her baby shower. We had a chance to explore a junk yard and play out in the backyard and cook huge steaks for dinner. Sunday we attended church and Ashley's baby shower and had a lot of fun looking at baby boy things!!! He is going to be so spoiled!
We got a call on Monday afternoon that the doctor wanted Bobbie to meet him at the hospital....little did any of us know that Miss Bentley was going to be arriving ahead of schedule!
We spent Monday and Tuesday mainly at the hospital waiting for the arrival of our sweet little Bentley. Yes! I made sure I had my pink slim in my system every day for energy and blood sugar balance... I even had the opportunity to make sure Andy had his!!
Tuesday night Bentley arrived. She has been so easy so far...sleeps a lot!!!!
We got the kids home finally on Friday a little later than they had hoped for but all was good and we got them settled in and fed before heading to the house to rest a bit ourselves!
The rest of the weekend was awesome too! We got to see Bentley again on Friday night and Saturday as she got out for a visit!
Sunday we were really blessed with Ashley and Alex joining all of us for church and lunch. What a blessing to go from 6 on a pew the previous Sunday to 7!
So much happiness in our home! We thank God everyday for our health and now the health of this brand new baby girl!
Pictures below are of Bentley at the hospital showing off her big bow and then ready to leave in her dress and then at El Chico on Easter Sunday!

A little weekend fun

Well what a rainy several days it has been! It is gorgeous outside today but evidently that won't last long... and while it is sunny.. I am inside!
Last weekend we hit Friday worn out!! Steve and I went and got some dinner and then settled in to a redbox movie! Steve had to work on Saturday morning so we made it a somewhat early night.
I got a few things done on Saturday and then Steve got off work and we headed to Hagerman wildlife refuge. We didn't get to see much because it was closed for a hunt in many of the areas we like to go find deer.
Sunday was a great day of worship and lunch with the kids!
This week has started with a heavy load on Monday.
I guess we will be watching for storms tonight and going into Wednesday.

Spring Break

Well Spring Break is over! We had fun! The first part of the week was kinda laid back stuff- finishing up a bit of cleaning around the house but then Steve took off work the last part of the week.
We started by going to the movies on Thursday night- Steve decided to take me to see Cinderella- it was really good!
Friday we got up and had some Starbuck's on our way west out of town to get out of the rain and drizzle!
We stopped at Muenester at Fisher's and got cheese... then we saw the Red Necks with Paychecks vehicles pulling in! We had to check it out! While going out to Saint Jo where the event was coming together we saw the field of VW bugs! LOL! funny what some people will put out for our amusement!
We continued our journey to Lawton Ok... we were looking for Medicine Park- this was the first cobblestone community in Ok- it was pretty unique- we walked down the water's edge and checked out the ducks, geese and waterfalls.
Then we went into the Wichita Wildlife refuge and drove to the top of Mount Scott. It was so pretty looking down over the lakes- it was very very windy and cool up there.
After coming down the mountain we stopped by the visitors center and as we were leaving the park we came dangerously close to a wild buffalo- he seemed calm enough until there were cars on either side of him then you could tell he was agitated! We decided to stay in the car at that point! LOL! We came home through Davis and stopped and loaded up on fried pies! yum yum!
Saturday started another adventure- of course after breakfast at home from the bacon we picked up at Fisher's we went to Starbuck's and Lowes. Then we decided we would investigate the Wildlife refuge at Tishomingo! It was so different from yesterday's travels. We did see deer on our adventure and underwater buildings of the Washita Farms but mainly we laughed as our truck became covered in mud on those back roads. We learned where Bee and Butcher Pen Oklahoma was! Not that we will ever need to know again! LOL! I've added pictures of Medicine park and the buffalo at Wichita Wildlife refuge as well as the pink pistol car in Tishomingo and the deer at the Washita Wildlife refuge.
Now it is back to Monday and back to work! Until our next adventure!!!

SNOW DAY!

Well the sleet started coming down Sunday night while we were at church. We had some things come up that we helped with so we didn't get home till after 8pm. Many schools were already canceling Monday morning classes.
Monday morning was very icy and lots of reports of accidents were coming in- glad we were home- it didn't get above freezing all day so by around 4pm the report that schools would not open on Tuesday was already going out! 2 days off for ice!
I got some things caught up around the house and then Tuesday night we ventured out... the roads were pretty clear- it had got just above freezing so we went out for dinner and stopped at a couple of stores... made a stop at Walmart- GRRRRR.... shelves were pretty bare... I got the things I wanted and went to checkout... several lines were working but I noticed their light was not on so I looked until I found a cash register with her light on and got in line... we waited while she worked with the guy at the register.. one more was in front of me and after a little while he turned around and said.. I am last in line... my reply was.. Oh.. I got here when her light was still on.. and then the cashier began to tell me she knew it was on but it was blinking and shouldn't have been on... REALLY!!!! now that I have stood in line and the other lines have gotten so long they were back to the clothes... AND I didn't have that many items as it was... GRRR! I took my buggy to a manager to explain to him what had happened.. thinking he would care... he didn't really care!!! So I left my stuff with him....
Anyway, on to the snow days... everyone was watching for snow on Wednesday morning but the storm shifted or slowed or something... funny lots of schools had a delay start so they will be going in while it is snowing... we came in normal time while it is sleeting.. now the kids are just loving watching the snow through the windows!
I guess winter isn't finished with us yet... a winter mix is expected on Friday!!!
We had a baby shower on Saturday for Bobbie.... Andy started his new job on Monday.. well.. after ice it was Tuesday.....We got to hang out with Ashley a bit for the shower...
On Saturday our sweet buddy Toby passed away- he had been in our family about 14 years.. he had gotten so feeble... it was sad watching him go...we tried to make him comfortable in a blanket and Steve had to bury him while we were at the baby shower... those things are always hard on all of us! They are family too!
Steve had just made the comment Friday night about if we would need to start looking for a Sheltie.. we have talked about getting a little guy to be a buddy to Beau... I don't know.. sometimes I say yes.. sometimes I say no.. but in looking at the prices we might have to pass... why are people selling pets for $600 and up??? Oh well.. if the right dog comes around we shall see!!! He has to enjoy hanging out with us and camping!! and of course.. he has to like Beau!

and YES... I want to build a snowman!!! :)
